Re: Kde 4.3.4: we are working on it for 2009.1 & 2010.0
Work in progress,
the hardest part has been surpassed!
First available packages will be:
Mandriva 2009.1 - 32bit
all the others it should follow soon
Following those Mandriva International Forum discussions:
http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php ... hlight=mib
and thanks to these others made here in the MIB Forum:
http://mib.pianetalinux.org/mib/forum/i ... =viewtopic
To accomplish users desires,
from some days we are working hard on KDE 4.3.4
... so Kde-4.3.4/QT4.6 first internal testing started some days ago,
and we started writing the necessary patches for mandriva ports ...
After many testing about compatibility with kde 4.3.2 previous apps:
We think compatibility it's very good and the porting it's enough safe,
so we decided to go on porting a very complete and full optimized KDE 4.3.4
It would be available for the most requested Mandriva 2010.0
but MIB does not forget Mandriva 2009.1 users, so we started porting packages for 2009.1
We'll make our best efforts to enable all possible feature:
If you watch the pic, you could notice, we managed to have KTML and WebKit both working:
It was quite hard to select proper SVN revision that builds both with QT 4.6 and KDE 4.3.4
Regarding some of those discussions:
for some people saying MIB does ports app only if there are SRPMs in cooker,
for some other people saying MIB doesn't want to help mandriva with packages,
we suggest to them to stop with the FUD to avoid making the figure of the stupid...
It will be available all rpms and srpms, so if mandriva need, also mandriva could use it
We now prefer avoid to flame, because it's much better answer with facts and not more words...
bye NicCo

Re: Kde 4.3.4: we are working on it for Mandriva 2009.1 & 2010.0
This is A-W-E-S-O-M-E, guys. You are the best.
Please, add to the list a KDEnlive 0.7.7 SVN snapshot. You'll need it to avoid some showstoppers with Qt 4.6. If you can, also test the Mandriva custom Nepomuk patches, and see how they fare with Qt 4.6. You may find some problems there, but we are talking about experimental software, and we're not talking about changes to the Nepomuk layer (the thing should compile painlessly).
BTW, when a Cooker SRPM is available, the backport is easier, but I know that you can do well without one. Read the comment I'm putting here: http://www.linux-mag.com/cache/7643/1.html ; we must maintain a good reputation for Mandriva. All of us.
You may end giving Mandriva the best KDE ever, and you'll surpass KDEmod in my book. If I can see your picture well, you are going far beyond what I'm asking for: you are patching Konqueror to use the Qt 4.6 WebKit engine, and you are beginning to give the power of Qt 4.6 to KDE 4.3 series. This is the spirit of the old KDEmod (somewhat lost when Dario and his crew decided to jump into the main KDE ship), and I missed it... until today. A Nitrogen-style backport (available here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=112652 ) will give us the theme of KDE 4.4 without KDE 4.4, and with the Smooth-tasks backport that I asked for in another thread (watch it here: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.ph ... ent=101586 ), you'll have the DEFINITE KDE for this cycle.

Re: Kde 4.3.4: we are working on it for Mandriva 2009.1 & 2010.0
MIB KDE 4.3.4 port will use QT4.5.3 and not new QT4.6 because:
After finishing entire KDE version for 2009.1 - 32bit built with QT4.6,
we installed it in a fresh installed pc and tested deeper, and we found:
- Serious problems with some qt programs, that do not work more!
- QT 4.6.0 was not faster at all, it seems even slower than QT 4.5.3
So: forget about QT 4.6.0, we are rebuilding all again with QT 4.5.3,
we want mainly prepare a safe port for all, not a very dangerous one...

Re: Kde 4.3.4: we are working on it for Mandriva 2009.1 & 2010.0
Good to know it... but... will it build with Qt 4.5.3?
(always use the latest point release )
Nevertheless, you're still awesome in my book. Keep up the good work; a Qt 4.5 backport should be definitely easier and faster to release.

"backport should be definitely easier and faster"
it's
"backport should be definitely compatible and safest"
KDE 4.3.4 with QT4.6 is full ready since yesterday for Mandriva 2009.1, but after more intensive tests we found too many problems with it, with previous qt apps, and we don't wish to transform 2010.0 in a new cooker tree....
All problems coming only from the adoption of the new QT4.6...
For who asked us new QT4.6, we say we could release too, but in a /testing folder, and will remain there!
We are sorrow, we made a full attempt with QT4.6, we wasted two full days and nights with QT4.6:
We have to consider all the incoming suggestions,
but after all we must take the safest decisions for all users...
bye
If someone want now to know when the porting would be available for all,
we think starting from the middle of next week to the next week-end (from about 15 to 19 December)

Re: Kde 4.3.4: we are working on it for Mandriva 2009.1 & 2010.0
I've received a private testing build, and this backport delivers.
You can watch several blank devices apart from the 2 right ones, delivered by PulseAudio. All of those blank devices work (on a laptop with only one output device), but their appearance there is confusing. This is a bug absent in Mandriva 4.3.2, and means that the porting of Mandriva patches isn't 100% ready.
Here you can see the Twitter bug fixed! (yay) Before the fix, you could't see your friends' tweets. Now you can.
- It is faster than Mandriva KDE 4.3.2. It feels faster, mainly because of some KWin fixes in 4.3.3 that weren't backported.
- It has the infamous Twitter bug (fixed upstream in KDE 4.3.3) fixed.
- Nepomuk autosuspension works better (it didn't work here, in fact, before this backport)
- The TaskTop icon is better!

Re: Kde 4.3.4: we are working on it for Mandriva 2009.1 & 2010.0
I haven't mentioned it, but I wanted Smooth Tasks because it makes easier to switch tasks... with my finger. Just see this!
My taskbar is now 1 thumb wide, with beautiful screen indicators and that lovely glow effect borrowed from Windows 7. I can press the screen and switch tasks, and I like to have a lot of them, so I want them beautiful (something I don't have with the stock taskbar). This is how I want my KDE (btw, I compiled previously my own version, but I desperately wanted the backport, because MIB must have it! )

Does anyone have this issue? When copying files, usual notification pops up in system tray. But after you close notifications for completed jobs, notification icon doesn't become "i", it becomes question mark, like missing icon.
