sono il problema...
Non si inizializza il DRI, al momento dell'avvio del server X, e il resto va velocemente a donnine allegre perché quello è necessario quasi per tutto.
Il perché non so immaginarlo (anche perché non uso i driver proprietari, quindi non posso controllare la mia configurazione e paragonarla alla tua)...

Anche perché non è ci hai detto molto:
Che versione di Mdv: 2011 0 2010.2? 32 o 64 bit?
Stai usando i nostri rpms? E hai fatto il rebuild di dkms-fglrx, dopo averli installati? (altrimenti è sicuro che ti ritrovi con con un kernel module non adatto...)
Che versioni di lib[64]drm e Mesa hai installate?
Hai un xorg.conf in /etc/x11 (e cosa c'è dentro) oppure quello si autoconfigura da solo?

Non avendo altre opzioni evidenti, stanti le informazioni disponibili, io proverei almeno due cose:
1) vedo che sulla linea di comando al boot passi al kernel il parametro "nokmsboot", il quale però dovrebbe disabilitare il supporto per il Kernel Mode Setting che invece credo sia necessario: puoi provare a rebootare togliendo provvisoriamente quel parametro?

2) proverei anche a testare se i driver open funzionano...

Guarda le date...
è da quasi due mesi che sta lì: non l'abbiamo postato ufficialmente perché nessuno (a parte chi l'ha fatto) lo ha testato, come invece sta accadendo per la 2011.0.
A me comunque è da quando è uscito il 1.11.1 (e poi .2 e poi .3...) che gira senza problemi sulla mia 2010.2/64 con una Radeon HD5750.

Verifica che hai installate le ultime lib[64]drm, Mesa e lib[64]pixman, tirati giù tutto in un'unica directory e poi vai di rpm -Uvh...

PS: Oppure aspetti qualche giorno, in modo da darmi il tempo di aggiornare tutto quel materiale alle ultime release e così avere 1.11.3 tutto anche sulla 2010.2...
PPS: Se sei ancora con un kernel 2.6.38, forse ti servirà anche un kernel più recente...

il rebuild di vbox per qualche ragione non produce il driver-input e poi non credo dovrebbe richiedere altro...

Questo non sappiamo bene perché capiti (o, almeno, io non sono riuscito a capirlo, guardando il sorgente e lo spec file annesso...),
tuttavia non dovrebbe costituire un problema, al massimo ti potrebbe toccare intervenire manualmente su Grub per ripristinare il tuo kernel originale come default, se l'installazione dell'altro portasse quest'ultimo a piazzarsi come tale (si tratta in fondo solo di cambiare tre link simbolici in /boot...)

Questo invece è giusto così:
* secondo Grissino, da qualche release vbox non ha più quel pacchetto e quindi installarne una versione nuova richiede l'eliminazione del vecchio
solo che il ns spec file non forzava questo...

* per xscreensaver, ribadisco quanto già detto: bisogna rebuildare tutto il xscreensaver come PLF per avere quel rpm lì, perché la configurazione "normale" omette le cose non-free (e quindi installando questa si perdono le cose legate all'altra versione).
Non è però una priorità, per il momento: quindi, se proprio ti serve quel rpm lì, devi avere pazienza ed aspettare che io abbia il tempo di farlo...

Sì, non è ancora on line il nuovo driver video vmware 11.1.0 rebuildato per il 1.11.3 (sorry, poco tempo a disposizione...)
Fra qualche giorno dovrebbe esserlo...

Il perché non so immaginarlo (anche perché non uso i driver proprietari, quindi non posso controllare la mia configurazione e paragonarla alla tua)...

Potresti aver bisogno di una versione più aggiornata del kernel, di Mesa e del driver xorg...

Il msg con il testo e la Guida è stato aggiornato:
adesso il porting è disponbibile anche per 2010.2

Mancano solo da preparare i driver proprietari di Ati e Nvidia, che dovrebbero essere disponibili per domani

nVidia ‎G96 [GeForce 9500 GT]


Ho aggiornato ma il sistema mi presenta continui blocchi e rallentamenti in fase di chiusura o durante l'avvio di applicazioni quali thunderbird o firefofox.

Con i driver nv non ho invece alcun problema.


Solo una parentesi...
Non so quale versione di xorg utilizza opensuse. Ma ho provato ha utilizzarla, e i driver proprietari mi davano in maniera ancora più accentuata gli stessi problemi.

Non ho capito quali driver stai attualmente usando: proprietari o open?
E poi: quando ti capita quel problema, ci sono segnali di qualche tipo in dmesg e/o in Xorg.0.log?
