Audex is an audio grabber tool for CD-ROM drives based on KDE 4.

Audex creates profiles for LAME, OGG Vorbis (oggenc), FLAC, MP4/M4A/AAC (faac) and RIFF WAVE. Please install your favorite encoder.

Audex is currently at 0.72b1. audex-0.71b5 is in contrib. It's a very nice little app and a newer version would be nice.

Thank you.

But I think that is allready available on mib repos ( packagging Nicco):
source.rpm:

http://mib.pianetalinux.org/2009.1/SRPM ... .1.src.rpm
I only can rebuild it for x86_64 ... :(

Hi SymbianFlo,
I already made a port for 2010.0 and a build for x86_64 (on 19/04),
but after that "the real life" stopped me and I never signaled it in RPMS Events.

The Nicco's src.rpm is for the ver. 0.71b5, not for the new one;
so, if you need it, I can download my src.rpm in your drophere directory ...

Oops.
Y're right and I was wrong.
Somehow I managed to install an original Mdv old src.rpm and not Nicco's one...

It's not in the ~/2010/32 MIB repo. I guess I should have been more specific in my request.

I'm running 2010 32bit. Sorry about that.

I've moved the rpms built by Sflo and GVMariani for mdv 2010.0

Mandriva 2010.0 - 64bit (SymbianFlo)

Code: Select all

urpmi http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/2010.0/64/basic/audex-0.72b1-69.1mib2010.0.x86_64.rpm
Mandriva 2010.0 - 32bit (GVMariani)

Code: Select all

urpmi http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/2010.0/32/basic/audex-0.72b1-69.1mib2010.0.i686.rpm

I tested the MIB Audex package and it seems to work well.

I do get a odd error message. It's quite long but boils down to: The ripping has been slow for the last 5 minutes and you may have a damaged disk. Do you want to quit?

If you select Yes or No the ripping aborts. If you ignore the error message the ripping and encoding completes.

I really do not think the problem is in MIB's package. I believe it to be upstream.

Well, after building and installing audex in my x86_64 box, I tried it for 2/3 times, ripping some tracks from different CD, but never had a similar error message...
Perhaps a problem only for the 32bit program?

What is exactly the error message? Changing the source CD makes a difference?
Do you have corresponding errors in the system log?

it happens to me too but only with certains cd , not all, for some is enough to reload the cd
for some others doesn't works ,must be investigated ,

I think is CDDA Paranoia the bully  because it 's use to extract the tracks .
Anyway post your error.
PS: other similar apps :
rubyripper, kaudiocreator, asunder, sound juicer, a.s.o. :D , if does not works try the others.

SymbianFlo:
You're right. It only happens with certain CDs. With Foghat - Energized it happens every time but in different places. So far, that's the only one I've found that gives the error.

I started audex from konsole and the only error in console was:

Code: Select all

libWorkMan: ERROR: CDROM_SEND_PACKET Input/output error
That error in konsole was before ripping started.

GvM:
Here is the message in the error window that pops up:

Window title- Cancel extraction - Audex

Code: Select all

Ripping speed is extremly slow for the last 5 minutes by now.
Due to extraction quality, audex is so configured, never skip any detected error. So if your disc is really broken extracting maybe never ends.
In some cases only this drive can't rip audio data from this disc. Maybe try another one.

However, do you want to continue extraction?

Yes No
