It's a Mandriva mistake:
they pushed cooker kernel into 2010.1 backports, but they forgot to use the right dependencies

Code: Select all

[root@localhost utente]# urpmi --auto-select
Uno dei pacchetti richiesti non può essere installato:
kernel-desktop-2.6.36.1-2mnb-1-1mnb2.x86_64 (perché non è soddisfatto module-init-tools[*][>= 3.6-12])
Continuo comunque l'Installazione? (S/n) n
You can see the 3.6-12 version request for module-init-tools but this is the cooker version:
Mandriva 2010.1 core package for module-init-tools is 3.6-10

They say it was a mistake but they intend to push the 2.6.36.xx series in /main/backports, so within some days they will replace that wrong made kernel with a newer and working 2.6.36.2-1mnb2

Question:
http://lists.mandriva.com/cooker/2010-12/msg00232.php
Stephen German, aka 'Germ' wrote: kernel-desktop-2.6.36.1-2mnb was uploaded to the 2010.1 backports repo.
People are trying to upgrade but it fails due to unsatisfied
module-init-tools >= 3.6-12.

Was this a mistake uploading that kernel?

The requires on module-init-tools is fixed in 2.6.36.2-1mnb2 wich will be uploaded later. (cooker packages still buildning)

In the meanwhile, I'm preparing new kernel nrj 2.6.36.2 for MIB, as usual

as for me, I use only kernel-nrj-desktop (now I have in my grub nrj for 2.6.33.7, 2.6.35.8, 2.6.36.1),
I resolved this problem, with a

Code: Select all

urpme -a kernel-desktop
thus removing all kernel-desktop from my mandriva 2010.1, so it doesn't ask more for that update

bye,
NicCo

If you have a blank screen with a cursor moving around and you are in KDE, perhaps you missed the right video drivers:
perhapos you forgot to install the -devel package of kernel, so drivers can't build properly

or you could have compatibility video problems between new KDE 4.5.4 an your configured video driver:
the kernel is not the cause

If the problem happens when the configured driver (often the open one) with KDE 4.5.4, here the solution:
http://mib.pianetalinux.org/mib/forum/v ... 475#p14013
