[SOLVED] I don't see in what MIB is useful

Hi guys,

I know my title sounds a little harsh. But I really don't understand what I gain from using MIB.

I run a Mandriva 2011.0 in x86_64. I know that Mandriva is not a rolling release, but what the point of not updating software like Firefox?
I'm stuck with Firefox 15 while the 19 is out.

Anyway this is not your concern. But this case lead me to search for a solution. And I came across MIB.
So I have added the repository on my computer following this http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Community/MIB/repository.
And surprise the Firefox version in the MIB repo is even older (12).

Now I am a little confuse.

So I am just asking you some help and clarification.
I really want to be able to make the best use of MIB.

Thank you.

Olivier

Mandriva 2011
MIB stopped its full support to Mandriva 2011.0 about one year ago,
most users and all developers found that 2011 is the crappiest and useless linux version ever!

for this reason MIB packages in repositories /basic have not been more updated since a long...

up to some months ago, we have prepared the newest kernels also for the Mandriva 2011.0,
using the powerfull ABF Build Server:
sadly, since october 2012, ABF build for mdv 2011 has broken, and since 2013 mdv2011 has been removed at all:
we cant rebuild any mdv2011 app using the ABF, and none of us, has still a mdv2011 machine, neither as a VM...

the situation is different for other distros:

Mandriva 2010
small active support is only for the most reliable Mandriva 2010:
example: we have released Firefox 19 for Mandriva 2010.3 repo, just some hours ago
and we prepare the best new kernels for mdv2010, and we accept some rpm requests

ROSA LTS Marathon (2012.0)
we have released Firefox 19.01, just some hours ago

ROSA Desktop Fresh 2012 (2012.1)
we have released Firefox 19.01, just some hours ago

bye, NicCo

I agree with that. I wish that I knew that before I installed it... :)

Sadly, I cannot install another distro since it would take too much time to reconfigure my development environment.
That for sure, I will never go again for a Mandriva!

Thanks anyway to took the time to answer me.

Olivier.

I can only add that now I can suggest you the very good ROSA Desktop Fresh 2012:
it's very rapid to install (10-15 minutes) and to config, it's updated at very fast pace

Here updated ROSA Fresh 2012 ISOs (KDE) these are fresh

there ISOs with Gnome 3.6, if you prefer Gnome 3 to KDE4
