Next in my TODO list, after all the kernel, firmware, proprietary video drivers storm...

Stay tuned.

Oops...
Sorry, forgot to spread the news:
I did the packages more than a month ago and placed them in 2010.3/[32 or 64]/testing/...

BTW I'm using them since then without any discernible issue.

i encounter a pb :

- virtuoso working heavily during several days !
- slowness with kmail, kontact etc.

i have that kind of pb previously but it is worst with new version
then
i made a big reset of akonadi and nepomuk databases

see
http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi_4.4/Tro ... in_KMail_2

then
all works perfectly

I would notice that this is always a problem when upgrading virtuoso/nepomuk:
it is much more safe to always reset/remove akonadi & nepomuk DB (and perhaps also the config files), forcing
a rebuild with the default (and renewed) settings.

all works perfectly
not exactly

there are 117 000 files in my hd.

during the rebuild of the nepomuk db
till 45 000 files indexed by nepomuk
there is no pb
but
after around about 45000 files indexed there is a phenomenon :

each time i open a kde session
after some time nepomuk starts and continues rebuilding db
after a random delay (1 h, 2h etc;) then nepomuk disappears from systray

i don't think it is a pb from this new version but a general pb.

where are the logs of nepomuk, soprano, virtuoso etc; ?

I fear that is the standard behavior for nepomuk
(at least until 4.8.x: I do remember having read a blog post where some changes were announced about that, but for 4.9+)
...
however AFAICT from my KDE experience, it does not "continues rebuilding db":
it rescan all the dirs you told it to index (defaulting to all your home) and only adds to the db any new file it finds.
That happens at the start of the KDE session and every time you adds some new files in the watched dirs of your home
(it monitors the relevant dirs by the means of inotity, I guess)
and usually lasts only a few minutes.

Every time it runs, it does suck away a good bunch of CPU power, though;
and if every time you have it running for hours: something is not good with yous setup...

i have no huge workload

i think we must distinguish :

- rebuilding semantical db
- rebuilding file index
- searching for recent changes

i have about 117 000 files

for the index
i am sure only 51 111 are in the index (nepomuk counter)
then nepomuk must continue indexing

for the the semantical db
i am sure only a part are in the semantical db

why ?
i activated nepomuk synchro in digikam settings
then
in dolphin i don't see in the info panel the comments, scores.
then
i concludes semantics of the photos are not in the nepomuk db

then i conclude nepomuk has at least 2 days of work to finish rebuiding semantical db and index
then it must not stop.

something (kmail receiving mail ?) badly interacts with nepomuk and perhaps stops nepomuk.

Ah, now it's more clear to me:
your nepomuk still does not have completed the initial db building and files indexing (because you did remove it when upgrading)
and keeps restarting because of some "new input" happening in the (long) meantime
(kmail is a good condidate, I think; but also any copying or moving of new files could be the culprit).
I fear that also this behavior is "the standard one" with nepomuk/strigi on KDE 4.8.x:
in my experience, indeed, when upgrading I was always forced to allow nempomuk and strigi to complete the db and index rebuild,
before having a chance to make any useful job with my KDE...
and you have really a lot of files, so the time needed to make the initial db is always going to be long, even without any interference.

You could then try to disable automatic fetching of new mail while doing the db initial creation, to avoid unneeded restarting of the db/index creation process
and allow it run for all the time needed (perhaps all the night along...).

You could also consider to open a bug for this problem on bugs.kde.org.

do you mean in >= 4.9.0 it works better ?

I mean that (if I remember correctly from casual reading of Planet KDE blog collection)
there were some improvements in the virtuoso/soprano plumbing layer, but also in the nepomuk/akonadi/strigi one:
the firsts can be back-ported to and older KDE install, but the others were included in the next KDE release (4.9 at time).

So, I guess KDE 4.10 should be better then our actual 4.8.x at this...

the pb with my photos are not a virtuso pb but surely a digikam nepomuk component

see the bug report

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=308931

then

i can conclude today no pb with this virtuoso update
