Ready and waiting for lists update the latest release of the proprietary video drivers for Nvidia cards.
UPDATE: now there also packages for Mdv 2011.0 - xorg 1.11.3.

POST-EDIT:
All the users who tested the xorg-server 1.11.3 from MIB with the last nvidia-current or beta, and were having troubles on KDE, should test
it also with our newer package: some of the fixes it sports seems related to this graphical environment...

For Mdv 2010.2 there are packages builded gainst both the "standard" xserver (1.7.7) and the latest experimental one from MIB (1.11.3):
those for xserver 1.7.7 are in our "expert" repo
http://mirror.pianetalinux.org/MIB/2010.2/32/experts
http://mirror.pianetalinux.org/MIB/2010.2/64/experts
while the packages for xserver 1.11.3 are in
http://mirror.pianetalinux.org/MIB/2010 ... xorg1.11.3
http://mirror.pianetalinux.org/MIB/2010 ... xorg1.11.3

For Mdv 2011.0 the packages are builded against the latest xserver from MIB (1.11.3):

Changelog:
Added support for the following GPU: Tesla X2090.
Fixed a bug that caused black areas to appear on the back faces of some models in Maya.
Fixed a bug that resulted in the printing of spurious loader error messages.
Fixed a bug that could cause X to crash after hotplugging displays.
Fixed a bug which caused face selections to be misrendered in Maya when using the paint selection tool.
Improved performance for interactive tools in Mudbox.
Added a "--no-opengl-files" option to nvidia-installer to allow installation of the driver without OpenGL files that might conflict with already installed OpenGL implementations.
Split the DFP configuration page in nvidia-settings into multiple tabs, allowing the controls to be displayed on smaller screens.
Fixed a bug that could cause some OpenGL applications (including desktop environments like KDE and GNOME Shell) to hang.
Fixed a bug that prevented the internal panel from working on some laptops with GeForce 7 series GPUs.
Fixed an OpenGL bug where using display lists on Fermi-based GPUs could result in missing rendering in some cases.
Fixed an OpenGL bug that caused incorrect rendering when using framebuffer objects to render to 16-bit color textures with alpha.
Fixed two bugs that caused sporadic application crashes in some multi-threaded OpenGL applications.
Fixed a bug that caused creating OpenGL 4.2 contexts with glXCreateContextAttribsARB to fail.
Fixed a bug that caused OpenGL to print Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0". when used with a non-NVIDIA implementation of the GLX X extension.
Implemented color depth 30 (10 bits per component) support for GeForce 8 series and higher GPUs.
Implemented support for constraining cursors to the visible regions of connected displays.

Please test them...

Yes.
I also wrote it in the announce:
"Ready and waiting for lists update..."

However, to update now you can go to the links I gave, download the relevant files in a directory of your choice and then go with
"sudo urpmi *.rpm"...

Gook luck.

nvidia doesn't work good if people has got installed mesa-7.11.2 version from MIB, this spec file contains errors. I've repackaged from 2012 mdv cooker and now it works good. When I had a time i'll upload all require packages. The main bug is nvidia doesn't read OpenGL info, and for that reason nvidia doesn't work. Never mind what nvidia version you have got installed, the bug persists.

Do you mind to share the corrections you added to the original spec file?
I fear the thing is true also for the 2010.2, but I cannot verify or test because I don't have the HW involved.

Thanks.

Make sure to be out of X (ideally an init 3 start...).
Download all the needed files in a directory of your choice, then cd in it;
go with "sudo rpm -ivh --replacefiles --replacepkgs *.rpm".
Also the "--oldpackage" option (in place of the two --replacexxxx above) could do the trick (I always use the former though)...
Sometime you will need to add "--force" at the command line to handle the conflicting packages.

At the end you will have reinstalled the older packages and removed the newer ones...

You really could be right...
and this really is the problem with the proprietary video drivers (Nvidia or ATI): while they are providing a good bunch of more performance than the open drivers,
the integration with the whole open stack video in not-so-good with newer releases of its components (mesa, drm, kernel, xserver), until the proprietary drivers play catch-up.
So if you are satisfied in your needs from the open nouveau driver, stick with it and enjoy more frequent updates and (hopefully) performance improvements.

I did the same thing with the radeon drivers more than a year ago and still I did not have to regret one time for the switch...

another hypothesis : my kernel desktop nrj pae 3.1.6 i686 is not compatible with nvidia 295.20

with software manager after switching to nouveau
i uninstalled all packet nvidia 290.20
then
in /etc/urpmi/skip.list i add these statements

/^dkms-nvidia-current-295.20-69.1mib2010.2.i686/
/^nvidia-current-cuda-opencl-295.20-69.1mib2010.2.i686/
/^nvidia-current-devel-295.20-69.1mib2010.2.i686./
/^nvidia-current-doc-html-295.20-69.1mib2010.2.i686./
/^x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-295.20-69.1mib2010.2.i686/

then
i restart my pc (because the software manager did not care of the added statements. it wanted to update to 295.20 !)
then
with drakx11 i switch to the previous nvidia 280.13

why i use nvidia ? because of vdpau and there is a temperature pb with nouveau.

nvidia : 62 °C
nouveau : 83 °C !!!

when i switch to nvidia then restart pc then temperature is 71 °C then after 3 mn 62 °C

there is really an overheating pb with nouveau

my card is an asus silent (without fan) 8600GT

Alas, this is one corner where the open driver(s) really don't shine:
with a fanless card it is good to keep the Nvidia blob to avoid overheating...
About vdpau the new Mesa & xserver should give us some thing more for nouveau (and radeon):
we will see...
