i mean all modules : kontact,kaddsressbook,korganiser,akregator
you can see this in menu "help >about"

it's strange because all packets version is 4.8.1 !

i am sure kmail is not 4.8.1 because in kmail 4.8.1 there is a fix i know, this fix is not there then it is a 4.8.0 version
Maybe you didn't reboot your system after update?

i also noticed this mismatch

all kdepim programs have version 4.8.0 in the help, while rpm are all 4.8.1

in mageia cauldron is the same.....

Now I checked it myself. Yes, I confirm that kdepim4 is built from 4.8.1 source but still says it's 4.8.0. Unfortunatelly, that's how it is provided in upstream, it's not a packaging mistake that can be solved.

I found an interesting feedback in the french forum

by Sylvain Zucca
http://forum.mandriva.com/fr/viewtopic. ... 30#p863337

and mainly the phrase about low memory use...
"Sur VirtualBox, Mandriva 2010 & KDE 4.8.1 ne consommes pas plus de 256Mo de Ram au démarrage"

in english
"In VirtualBox, Mandriva 2010 KDE 4.8.1 & do not eat more than 256MB of RAM on startup"

from his Blog
http://linuxadvantage.blogspot.com/
in the
3) Désactiver les options de deboguage de KDE
he suggests to remove the kdedebug features, for a more reactive kde

Code: Select all

kdebugdialog
disabling all debug feature in the list, and then Apply

Ho anch'io le stesse indicazioni riguaro la versione di kdepim, ma quello che è peggio è che non va a buon fine l'importazione di kmail e dei contatti.

Azioga has succeeded to recover old mail and accounts from KDEPIM (4.5.5) to the newer (4.8)

I think he can help you, and the argument is interesting, he could write some text as HowTo

as kmail automatic import didn't work, i used import tools in kmail -> File -> Import Massages (there is a filter for mbox and one for maildir structure).

sorry but i had no contact to import... but i'm sure that google can give you an answer.

As you can see from firefox, there're some updates dated 11 march:
http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/2010.2/ ... l/?C=M;O=D

QT 4.8 libs have been updated to version 4.8.0-69.6:
now there is an important fix that solve a boring bug
(sometimes closed window still presents in the task bar).

%changelog
- Add patch 11 from upstream to fix very annoying KDE4 bug 275469

Update > from pulfer words

In kdelibs4-4.8.1-69.2 I fixed 2 issues:

1) Bookmarks ("Video", "Pictures" etc) in Dolphin were not translated.
It was related to dropped by MDV support for mandriva-kde-translations
package with such translations. Now the feature is restored.

2) By default "Video", "Pictures" etc bookmarks were not even created.
The feature was dropped by MDV since KDE4 4.5 -> 4.6 update or so. Only
people who had old $HOME/.kde4/share/apps/kfileplaces from KDE4
4.4/4.5 could see old could see such useful bookmarks. Now the feature
is restored.

KDE4.5.5 to 4.8.1 test:
1) mdv2010.2Free 32bit kernel2.6.36.4-nrj KDE4.5.5+gnome2+a lot of programs and long using it + full backports +edu/plf/mibbasic
2) Disable kde4.5.5 repos
3) Add 4.8.1 needed repos
4) Full update with --allow-force enabled

Code: Select all

# urpmi --allow-force --auto-select --auto-update
5) 2 times the installation process will be automatically forced with manual acceptation (because of some dependencies)
6) Restart
7) All done =) No problems. Seems no errors. Did not need to clean .kde4 directory(No black screens). All settings saved.
8) Checking orphans and cleaning:

Code: Select all

# urpme --auto-orphans
But do not remove them immediately! =)
Possible list of orphaned packages (around 60)

My log of installed/deleted orphans (Some are not shown - for example: python-qt4***) (some package versions are not shown):
show spoiler»
9) Thats all =)
