Kernel 3.6.2 - Announce

All users of the 3.6 kernel series must upgrade.
Image Image
Kernel 3.6.2 by MIB
This is prepared like the official one used for ROSA 2012 LTS MARATHON
this version is the prepared by MIB for Mandriva and ROSA development
For ROSA Desktop 2012 (2012.1) it will be available in official /main repo.

In October you could find some differences and news also in this mainline serie,
the reason it that we are in full development mode for ROSA 2012.1:
from this 3.6.2 we will release two new flavours and also their 32bit pae versions
  • kernel-nrj-laptop > It's optimized for laptop PCs, with a particular attention for cpu cooling and the battery lasting
  • kernel-nrj-realtime > It's optimized to have the lowest latency and so it's better for realtime apps like jackd, ecc...

So, for this kernel 3.6.2 we can test only 3 flavours >>> nrj-desktop, nrj-laptop, nrj-realtime
Starting from next 3.6.3 version, kernel will be prepared with all the complete flavour set

DON'T INSTALL VMWARE products with Kernel > 3.4, otherwise the PC freezes and even the boot...
You must boot with a Kernel less than 3.5 (example 3.4.11), then patch vmware with the 3.5 patch (working also for 3.6)
after the patcvh, you can boot every kernel 3.6 and 3.6

Here VMWare with the tested and working 3.5 (It has been tested also for kernel 3.6)

Did you installed on RM 2012 LTS 64bit and it works?
If so, the problem with kernel 3.6.1 in my RM2012-64 should be caused from something related to my own HW...

or it's also possible that the new version 3.6.2 should work also in my RM2012 - 64bit, I must try 3.6.2 ASAP

Rosa lts x64, the Nvidia driver (v 295.71) does not work. The system reports that the nvidia kernel module could not be loaded.

May be an incompatible driver version?

Hi,
I tried to install the driver 304.51 from Nvidia: while it looks that the driver compiles correctly (had to install kernel-source, and the feedback is uncertain as the screen is crappy), then drackconf reports that it was unable to load the nvidia kernel-module.
I need the Nvidia driver because I use the hdmi audio driver which is not loaded if I use the nouveau opensource driver.

A new kernel 3.6.2 release is being published right now:
the main difference is that will be available not only 3 test flavours but all the flavour set

Con Kolivas CK1 patches with BFS for Kernel 3.6 are finally available!
During this week kernel 3.6 should be prepared also for the experimental development serie Yin/Yang (69) with the addiction of CK1, BFS, BFQ, TOI

A good News, knowing that kernel 3.6.2 for ROSA 2012.1 works fine on mandriva cooker 2012,
I think that you before installed microcode firmware for cpu, that now is in requires for kernel

In cooker SRPMS I see the latest Nvidia version 304.51
SRPM > ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pu ... -1.src.rpm

You can easily rebuild from the SRPM,
or you can try also the cooker built rpm drivers, poobably those rpms could work even without a rebuild

NicCo,

My mistake, it works fine on Mandriva 2011 64btis
The rebuild for Mandriva 2012 64bits is planned this week. (It takes a lot of time)
For the moment Mandriva 2012 64bits use its own kernel with the boot-options "acpi=off irqpoll".
Without them it won't boot.

For the DKMS-nVidia, my system is with Xorg 1.11.3 from MIB.....
From time to time I rebuild the cooker SRPM for me only.

Hi,

On Mandriva 2010.2 x86_64 (updated 2010.3-mib) nvidia does not build (exit status 10), even after cleaning dkms tree ou after uninstalling and reinstalling all nvidia and dkms pkgs.

But not with rosa 2012 lts, or at least I've not been able to do that. Consider that in the past I did such operation frequently with mandriva, despite the crappy screen.
I think that something changed in rosa that prevents the correct allocation of the files.
Now I'm waiting the update of the srpm in mandriva cooker to try the build of the rpm's.
