UPDATE: 26 May 2013 >>> viewtopic.php?p=22047#p22047
Kernel 3.8.13 -rt8 has been updated to -rt9 > rebuilds in progress into ABF

Kernel rt 3.8.13 for ROSA MARATHON (2012.0), ROSA Desktop.Fresh 2012 (2012.1) and OpenMandriva Cooker (2013.0)
Packages not available but remains the possibility to rebuild them also for old Mandriva 2010 and Mandriva 2011.0
For those who are greedy, MIB started preparing also of the Kernel with rt ...
Actually, Linux kernel 3.8.13 includes mostly the same changes as Linux 3.9.2 kernel...

Kernel RT has Ingo Molnar -rt (realtime) series patches applied to vanilla kernel.org kernels:
it's equipped with plain configs, it contains some patches to improve further the hw support,
that's the first packaging for kernel 3.8 series of rt kernel, so it needs to be properly tested...

INFO about the SRPM build possibilities and rpm availability:
For ROSA Marathon we'll build Kernels LTS: 3.0, 3.2, 3.4, and all the latest kernels up to the 3.8 series
For ROSA Fresh we are building all Kernel versions starting only from the 3.6 to the most recent series
For "Cooker" we are building all Kernel versions starting only from the 3.8 to the most recent series
For old distros Mandriva 2010 and 2011, we are maintaining build compatibility: you can also rebuild,
but we CANNOT prepare the rpms for You, as we have no chance to build with ABF or in our own PCs

  • Before downloading and installing any kernel 3.8.13 flavour, you need to install the Required microcode firmware!
Microcode firmwares for cpu AMD / INTEL updates
With the proper cpu microcode enabled you can obtain a more reliability of you system, especially indespensable in server area, so when your cpu has a defect, kernel will found the best work-around to avoid slowdowns, or dangerous oops that could harm till to freeze your OS...

Hello! The kernel-rt works fine even with the latest ATI drivers! Sound applications work fine! :D
Zero xruns! :D
3d-kwin-effects fluids! :D
Only problem is the screen brightness is not adjustable but what happens with all kernels and it is therefore clear that the problem is ATI!
Shit!

Nvidia recent drivers were built successfully on rt kernel and are working fine!
Also all my VMs (with vmplayer 5.0.2) start fine and seems working as usual!

I remember when in the past kernel rt and proprietary nvidia drrivers were not compatible each others (claiming license issues)...

Ciao, NicCo

Today we are updating and send to rebuild kernel-rt 3.8.13
again with few fixes > 3 last recent versions: -rt8, -rt9, -rt10

https://abf.rosalinux.ru/kernels_38x/Ke ... uild_lists
https://abf.rosalinux.ru/kernels_38x/Ke ... uild_lists

Having all these 3 versions, is usefull only because help us to check and verify better
all the progresses and eventual regressions, from the latest versions -rt8 to upto -rt10
i.e.lately has been reported by GvM that rt9 had a regression with a module of vmware
we hope that this newest -rt10 is working well for vmware vms and for everything else...

Alexander Burmashev wrote:I'm very interested to the new just added patch:

- scsi_storvsc_avoid-usage-of-WRITE_SAME.patch

That's particularly very important for me.
Actually, ROSA installation on Hyper-V machines may be blocked by a bug, and this patch should fix!
I guess it is not so critical for cooker, since it may be used 3.9 kernels ( where it is fixed upstream ).

Kernel-rt 3.8.13 with -rt12 patch for ROSA Marathon 2012.0, ROSA Fresh 2012.1 and OM cooker

UPDATE! > rt12

Announce: Kernel-3.8.13-rt12
http://www.spinics.net/lists/kernel/msg ... cSoSnyB6e0
"Dear RT Folks,

I'm pleased to announce the 3.8.13-rt12 release.

changes since v3.8.13-rt11:
- added the missing "acpi/rt: Convert acpi_gbl_hardware lock back to a
raw_spinlock_t", reported by Steven.
- added an option to the i915 driver to disable the expensive wbinvd. A
warning is printed once on RT if wbinvd is not disabled to let the
user know about this problem. This problem was decoded by Carsten Emde.
- disable the trace_i915_gem_ring_dispatch() tracepoint on RT. Earlier
it was reported that using this trace point leads to "scheduled while
atomic" warnings. To fix this I pulled out the function in question out
of the tracing macro. Upstream complains that this leads to too much
overhead if the tracing point is not enabled so not it is gone."
