Info about Kernel 3.10 LTS availability on ROSA Marathon

Post by NicCo »

About this Info:
that we published, for example here >>> http://forum.rosalab.ru/viewtopic.php?f ... 223#p19117
Note: now there are some build issues, but only for Marathon:
we hope to fix soon so we can try kernel 3.10 also for 2012.0!
I have great News!

Until 3.10.6 we could NOT rebuild kernel 3.10 nrj/nrjQL for ROSA Marathon,
we have investigated the issue, and finally we succeeded to find the culprit

http://bugs.rosalinux.ru/show_bug.cgi?id=2486

you can read that old binutils was the cause of it
so the package has been updated to 2.21.53.0.2

I tested locally the new binutils, installing the container repo and updating binutils

Code: Select all

# urpmi.addmedia kernelbuild-fix http://abf-downloads.rosalinux.ru/rosa2012lts/container/1202533/x86_64/main/release/
viene aggiunto il supporto "kernelbuild-fix"
    http://abf-downloads.rosalinux.ru/rosa2012lts/container/1202533/x86_64/main/release/media_info/synthesis.hdlist.cz
localhost ~ # urpmi binutils
Se segni binutils come installato manualmente, non diventerà «auto-orphaned»
writing /var/lib/rpm/installed-through-deps.list

    http://abf-downloads.rosalinux.ru/rosa2012lts/container/1202533/x86_64/main/release/binutils-2.21.53.0.2-1-rosa.lts2012.0.x86_64.rpm
installazione di binutils-2.21.53.0.2-1-rosa.lts2012.0.x86_64.rpm da /var/cache/urpmi/rpms

Finally the kernel 3.10 was built correctly also on my Marathon x86_64 (this time the tested was the one I'm preparing 3.10.7 rc1):
so I installed, and reboot my PC

Code: Select all

localhost ~ # urpmi /home/utente/rpmbuild/RPMS/x86_64/kernel-nrjQL-desktop-devel-3.10.7-0.rc1.69rosa.lts-1-1-rosa.lts2012.0.x86_64.rpm

The fix should reach official marathon updates very soon, perhaps in few hours:
so, since next stable version 3.10.7 we'll publish again kernel 3.10 for Marathon!

Re: Info about Kernel 3.10 LTS availability on ROSA Marathon

Post by NicCo »

I confirm that the fix has reached Marathon and ABF:
>>> http://bugs.rosalinux.ru/show_bug.cgi?id=2486

Finally, all packages of Kernel 3.10.7 are available also for Marathon, so this is the first version of 3.10 nrj & nrjQL for 2012.0

Users of ROSA Marathon can install and enjoy the new LTS Kernel 3.10!

Because of no more ABF 12hrs time limitation, since this 3.10.6 I've added to rebuild,
another 2 flavours to test, the 32bit with PAE for the 32bit OS with 4Gb or more ram:
- kernel-nrj-desktop-pae,
- kernel-nrj-laptop-pae
and
- kernel-nrjQL-desktop-pae,
- kernel-nrjQL-laptop-pae

I remember that if you use proprietary video driver, you need to update them to those versions 3.10 compatible:
these drivers are built only for ROSA Fresh, we hope that soon the same will be available also for Marathon

Nvidia and AMD proprietary drivers with kernel 3.10 support
Alexander Kazancev wrote: Hi all. I prepared some fresh version of proprietary blobs with kernel 3.10 support fore ROSA FRESH. Please install and test it

NVIDIA

13.8 beta will release soon (on the end of week), so adding AMD repo as constant media.

Please say me about problem with drivers

For VMWare 9.0.2, VMPlayer 5.0.2 with Kernel 3.10
here the solution: > http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/rosa201 ... -kernel310
download the two tar files fixed by us
>>> http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/rosa201 ... mblock.tar
>>> http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/rosa201 ... /vmnet.tar

from root replace the two existing files with the fixed ones

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/
now vmware can rebuild its modules with all kernels 3.10!

to manually force vmware modules rebuild you can execute

Code: Select all

vmware-modconfig --install-all
or, if from a kde or gnome terminal

Code: Select all

vmware-modconfig --install-all --console
