Kernel 3.13.11-2 for ROSA 2012 2012.1 - OMV 2013 2014 cooker

Post by NicCo »

Kernel 3.13.11 release -2, for ROSA 2012lts, rosa2012.1 and omv2013.0, omv2014.0, and cooker (omv2014.1)
Kernel 3.13.11 arrives in its complex nrj & nrjQL flavours, for ROSA and OpenMandriva Linux OSes!
What is changing with the new release -2
Paolo Valente and Arianna Avanzini, have just now sent us the new I/O scheduler BFQ v7R4
into an mail attachment: as I requested giving the priority to kernels 3.13, 3.10, 3.12, then 3.0

This is an absolute preview! - Infact currently these patches have NOT still been published...

In this way I can prepare ASAP the new release of kernel 3.13.11 for OpenMandriva Lx 2014:
It should fix a rare issue that may happen with NCQ HDD devices, when these are detected
as NOT NCQ capable, all that may lead tonoticeable slowdowns and so many nasty oops...

The issue happened rarely, it was reported by few liquorix kernel users
to be reproduced and verified it occurred to be injected, now it's fixed...

After verifying that all is OK in my PCs, and all is working well for the Kernel 3.13.11-2,
I'll apply the same release patches into the kernel 3.10.40for ROSA Fresh R3, and son on for all our supported kernels!

HIGHLIGHT
Since this version we use the new stable major version of BFQ v7r4 (enabled as default)

VMWare virtualization
We have noticed that Kernel 3.13 did not work with the VMWare virtualization
we searched for a solution to be applied directly to the vmware sources and finally:

Here is available the patched (fixed) archive (vmnet.tar) for the kernel 3.13.6+:
http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/rosa201 ... kernel313/

you need to apply also the two patches for kernel 3.12, you can get from:
http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/rosa201 ... kernel312/

Put the nr.3 MIB patches in this path (from a root terminal)
/usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/
after a safety backup of the original /source folder contents.
