Kernel 4.1.2 for ROSA 2012 2012.1 2014.1 OMV2013 2014 2015

Kernel 4.1.2 for ROSA 2012lts, rosa2012.1, omv2013.0, omv2014.0, rosa2014.1 and cooker (omv2015.0)
Kernel 4.1 arrives ASAP in its complex nrj & nrjQL flavours, for ROSA and OpenMandriva Linux OSes!

...considering that 4.1 will also be a LTS release." wrote Linus Torvalds in his regular message

This is the current version of the "nrj" and "nrjQL" stable 4.1.2 LTS ;-),
all features have been added and configured with unofficial CK/BFS,UKSM,TOI (these are not yet available for 4.1 tree)

This is an early and still young 4.1.x, so there can still be problems, although it works just fine on all my PCs...

Re: Kernel 4.1.2 for ROSA 2012 2012.1 2014.1 OMV2013 2014 20

Post by NicCo »

Kernel 4.1.2 LTS is our first Kernel built with LTO ! (Link-time optimization)

I remember that the LTO was the last feature not yet implemented of nrjQL
but it had been planned, three years ago, with a great foresight and hope:
and here is my old article:
nrj >>> nrjQL, the Next Kernel Generation, a step forward...
in the text, you can read the item numbered as: 12> LTO ...

***************************************************************************************
Today LTO is stable enough: OMV2015 has been just configured 100% LTO
***************************************************************************************

From real time IRC chat:
17:13] <_TPG> it is being published
[17:14] <_TPG> this one is good

[17:16] <_TPG> notice that this kernel is being build with LTO
[17:16] <NicCo> when you'll install, you should notice some difference :D

VLC with video.
All perfect:
0 wait times;
performance audio, video and midi perfectly fluid!
One flaw is that VLC uses 36% of CPU!

According to Greg Kroah-Hartman, who warns all users of the Linux 4.0 kernel series to move as soon as possible to the Linux 4.1 kernel branch, which will be an LTS (Long Term Support) release, Linux kernel 4.0.9 is the last maintenance version.

"I'm announcing the release of the 4.0.8 kernel. All users of the 4.0 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "Note, there will only be one more 4.0-stable release, please start moving to 4.1-stable at this point in time, you have been warned."
As we thought by many voices, the Kernel 4.0 serie was not an LTS series,
with 4.0.9 version will became EOL (last version and not more maintained)

Our decision to support Kernel 4.1.x since the very first version was good!
TPG was insisting a lot on 4.1... :D ... even when it was only in rc status...,
(he has often sent me msgs: "News about Kernel 4.1?" but was still in rc...)

Usually we begin to deal with a kernel when it starts to become quite mature,
often from its 5th version, especially because all the patches that we need for the QL serie become finally available,
currently all those patch sets (CK1, BFS. UKSM, TOI) are NOT yet available from their official developers/leaders,
this time we are using the unofficial patch sets for QL, those modified and adapted to Kernel 4.1 from Community...

LTS Kernels > Linux 4.1.12-nrjQL <<< Linux 3.18.17-nrjQL <<< Linux 3.14.46-nrjQL
EOL Kernels > Linux 3.19.8-nrjQL <<< Linux 3.17.8-nrjQL <<< Linux 3.15.10-nrjQL

Hi!
I want to add one!
The 19 patches added by Nicco make the difference: the system is much more responsive than the 4.1.1 which happened to go to freeze one or two times; the 4.1.2 with 19 patches instead has absolutely shown signs of imbalance despite the heat of Charon! :D :D :D
Greetings!
