Alexander Kazancev: Some change in my private repo

Post by NicCo »

Alexander Kazancev, informed us via the ML for ROSA developers, one important thing that for some geek users may be interesting:
If you like to test all new things, and to be ever on the edge, there you may find some important stuff, so I forward here, his msg...
As ABF provides new feature for create custom repo in private platform, i split testing and newest package in different repo. For now you may find and add via

urpmi.addmedia xyz_repo path_to_repo --update following media (REPO_NAME):

nvidia - latest working proprietary drivers for NVIDIA
fglrx - latest working proprietary drivers for AMD
libreoffice - latest version of LibreOffice
backports - other package (stable but not impliment in official platform or in QA procedure like new X-server, NM). May be not stable for you!

main repo for now is test non-stable repo !!! Use it for own risk

All repo you may find for this path

http://abf.rosalinux.ru/downloads/akden ... E/release/

like for PLATFORM=2012.1 ARCH=i586 and REPO_NAME=nvidia

http://abf.rosalinux.ru/downloads/akden ... x/release/

My personal test in my Laptop:

Hardware: Nvidia Go 7300
need nvidia-long-live driver, I had 304.84, iI want test 304.88

Software: ROSA Fresh x86_64
with some testing stuff: KDE 4.10.2 and MIB X14/Mesa 9.1

I added the repo with the new Nvidia drivers

Code: Select all

urpmi Akdengi_Nvidia --update http://abf.rosalinux.ru/downloads/akdengi_personal/repository/rosa2012.1/x86_64/nvidia/release/
trying to update, here the log

Code: Select all

[root@localhost ~]# urpmi --auto-select
Uno dei pacchetti richiesti non può essere installato:
nvidia-long-lived-doc-html-304.88-1-rosa2012.1.x86_64 (perché non è soddisfatto x11-driver-video-nvidia-long-lived[== 304.88-1])
Continuo comunque l'Installazione? (S/n) s
Questi pacchetti devono essere rimossi per poterne aggiornare altri:
nvidia-long-lived-doc-html-304.84-69.1-mib2012.1.x86_64
 (perché non è soddisfatto x11-driver-video-nvidia-long-lived == 304.84-69.1)
x11-driver-video-nvidia-long-lived-304.84-69.1-mib2012.1.x86_64
 (perché non è soddisfatto kmod(nvidia-long-lived) == 304.84) (s/N) s
Per soddisfare le dipendenze, sarà installato il seguente pacchetto:
 Pacchetto Versione Release Dist DEpoch Arch.
(supporto "Kazancev_Nvidia")
 dkms-nvidia-long-lived         304.88       1             rosa  2012.1 x86_64
89MB di spazio disco saranno liberati.
verranno scaricati 3.2MB di pacchetti.
Procedo con l'installazione di un pacchetto? (S/n) s
It removed two old files, without updating them, as usual, so at the end i installed them again

Code: Select all

[root@localhost ~]# urpmi x11-driver-video-nvidia-long-lived
Per soddisfare le dipendenze, saranno installati i seguenti pacchetti:
 Pacchetto Versione Release Dist DEpoch Arch.
(supporto "Kazancev_Nvidia")
 nvidia-long-lived-doc-html     304.88       1             rosa  2012.1 x86_64 (suggerito)
 x11-driver-video-nvidia-long-> 304.88       1             rosa  2012.1 x86_64
Altri 89MB di spazio disco saranno utilizzati.
verranno scaricati 16MB di pacchetti.
Procedo con l'installazione di 2 pacchetti? (S/n) s
REBOOT:
- the first reboot, i have seen a blank screen, where the LCD is saying me: NO HDMI SIGNAL
so I waited few minutes, then I had to reboot brutally (why the first reboot must freeze?)

- the second reboot, finally I can see boot and KDM, I can see to start KDE with success

RESULTS:
- Nvidia Control Center, checked > Direct Rendering is OK, OpenGL OK,
3D apps starts OK, 3D games start, Youtube play videos fine and with the right colors

REGRESSIONS:
- None noticed,
only complain about first reboot, seemed like a "scary move", blank screen, all freezed

I'll test further this driver:
now I'll wait my son, he will test the 3D games he plays, when he comes back from school

bye, NicCo
