Huge Download

Post by cabernet »

Rosa Desktop 2012.1 x86_64

Not sure if anyone can help but when I attempt to install "Lyx" document formatter I am faced with a huge download......see bottom. Lyx is never a small package but hang and 1 Gig download is huge. I have not come across this problem in OpenSuse or Fedora for that matter. Any ideas on how to address this ? It may be something to do with how the software is packaged - not sure.

Hi, I'm a usually LyX user. Well LyX needs LateX and LateX is a huge huge package. In old Mandriva/Rosa versions LateX were only a pair of packages with more than 1.5 GB. Actually LateX is the same but ROSA/Mandriva packagers has split it with a multitude of packages because before that the installation were freezed, now this not happens. LyX recommends install all LateX packages if you want a charm installation. If you don't want that so you'll be always installing the specific LateX package when you want using it in your LyX documents, but the installation of the package is not sufficient, you'll need reconfigure and reboot LyX everytime you install a new LateX package. I prefer the actual situation, I install all necessary and forget to install everytime a new necessary LateX package when I'm writing my LateX documents with LyX.

So long

Ok, thanks for your input. I would be interested to see how other distros handle this.
