Da qualche giorno ricevo questo messaggio dopo tempo random:

e la partizione /home viene montata in sola lettura con la conseguenza di non poter chiudere correttamente tutte le applicazioni aperte compreso kde/X.
Sono perciò costretto a chiudere con ctrl+alt+backspace e poi riavviare.
Ad ogni riavvio parte fsck per la home e spesso e volentieri devo provvedere manualmente senza le opzioni -a -p.
Spesso i dati vengono salvati in lost+found ma vengono persi i nomi delle dir originarie.
Stamattina si è superato : ha salvato tutto ancora in lost+found ma ha completamente rimosso la cartella /home/mario!

E avvolte anche la partizione root viene montata in sola lettura con al riavvio fsck forzato!

Prova a controllare il disco con gsmartcontrol, giusto per verificare se sta per abbandonarti..........

Problema di Rosa non credo l'interfaccia col fs è fornita dal kernel e vedo che usi il 3.6.11 che io utilizzo da mesi senza problemi.

Di più non so dirti.

Concordo con Astragalo: probabile disco in partenza...
Un bel (da root) smartctl -a sul /dev/sxx del disco dovrebbe dirti di più, come pure uno sguardo al /var/log/messages (dovrebbe tenere traccia degli errori che il disco ritorna e, vista la situazione, mi aspetterei di vederne un bel po').

Spero tu abbia backup recenti in giro delle cose che ti interessano.

Eccolo lì, l'errore...
Il mio log invece dice "No errors logged" dopo "SMART Error Log Version: 1".
Cosa sia e cosa significhi, non saprei dire...
D'altro canto il test di base è PASSED, quindi il disco non si considera in fase di rottura.
Potresti anche provare con i self-test (man smartctl per seperne di più) e vedere se qualcuno di questi ritorna errore...

Se tutto continua a funzionare dal pdv di SMART ma tu hai ancora i problemi di cui sopra, allora potrebbe essere che l'errore sia capitato in passato e abbia lasciato dei settori rovinati, scrivendo nei quali succede di tutto. Potrebbe quindi essere il caso di dare una passata al disco con le utility di supporto del produttore, perché essere permettono di fare cose di basso livello che con il normale sistema operativo è complicato o impossibile fare, tipo rimappare i settori difettosi eventualmente presenti in modo da non utiizzarli più senza intervenire direttamente sul FS esistente...
purtroppo sono quasi tutte per DOS (ma ci si può arrangiare con un apposito disco di boot).

Ne esiste anche una a, a pagamento, purtroppo, che quasi sempre permette di recuperare i settori danneggiati e con essi anche le informazioni perse. Si chiama hdd regenerator. Comunque se il disco è anzianotto, la regola è recupera il disco e poi clonalo su uno nuovo: col tempo i dischi degradano e se cominciano a comparire settori difettosi è meglio sostituirlo.
Io questa utility la ho utilizzata diverse volte con soddisfazione. Un'altra utility di questo tipo, ma molto più datata, è spinrite.

ci sono anche quelli che possono tentare il recupero di settori difettosi ma non troppo rovinati, a volte si tratta solo di un difetto di magnetizzazione, solitamente recuparabile, se invece il difetto è più profondo, fare immediatamente il backup del possibile e cambiare velocemente disco

A volte i difetti sono completamente recuperabili, altre volte i difetti tendono a ricomparire, in questo caso è comuque possibile recuperare i settori quel tanto che basta a consentire un backup su un altro supporto.
