FAQs from ML
Question:
This is nice, but when is the version number going to change to reflect the year? It's almost 2014.
Answer:
No - this is not new version, only update-pack for 2012.1 with some usefull changes.

Question:
That freeze at boot time at the TNP sync... what to do?
Answer:
For NTP - please run drakxclock and reinstall timezone - you need new symlink.
NTP is not a part, that may break system. You may install timezone manually running for example

Code: Select all

timedatectl set-timezone Europe/Budapest
Question:
Boot wih EFI boot?
Answer:
Now we has some working efi parts (not Secure boot) and chance if you has win8 machines, you abble install iso in automate mode. Not 100% but previously this been 0%.

Question:
My boot fail...
Answer:
If you has previously proprietary blobs please run via CLI XFdrake and setup you nvidia or amd card again - this will fix GUI load.

Re: Pre-release ROSA Fresh KDE 2012.1 R2 iso images

OK, I tried the new ISO, but prior to try to install it I have a question to pose.

On my pc there is an adaptec 7805 raid controller that handles two arrays. The first is composed by four 2 TB disks set as Raid 5 with two partitions: is 4.7 TB NTFS and the second is 1 TB Ext 4 . The second array is composed by two 3 TB disks in RAID 1, with one NTFS partition.
If , in live mode, I start dolphin I see two instances of an 8.5 TB disk that can't be accessed as they result busy for the operating system.
My question is: this problem is addressable just to the live distribution or to a more general problem in accessing large GPT arrays? Is it safe to try to install rosa Fresh in such condition?

Thanks

AndreaS

PS: the motherboard, an asus x79-deluxe, has a UEFI BIOS.

PPS: the rosa imagewriter did not work for me: the usb pendrive prepared with this tool from windows did not pass the integrity test, but the same pendrive passed the test when prepared with the dd command from linux

I remind you that the ISOs are not the final ones, perhaps they are, perhaps not
are classified as "Pre-release"

I've installed the x64bit today on a HP Pavillion DV6, and all went ok:
Below there is my first feedback, that I've already sent to ROSA ML
Spoiler:

this morning I've downloaded the 64bit ISOs and I've tested it on a HP Pavillion DV6 (I5)

x86_64
https://abf.rosalinux.ru/platforms/rosa ... lists/2145

first boot, in Live mode, all is OK, boot, choosen resolution (1366 x 768), localization OK
- the overall impression is that R2 works in Live mode better than R1, is more responsive,
and manages better many concurrently tasks,
- finally repos are full configured out of the box, in the best way, so I was able to install inxi
(why not adding the small "inxi" on the ISOs)
- the windows refresh is fast (free ati drivers), watching a HD video from Youtube is smooth
- for the first time, I succeeded to poweroff, it was very rapid, less than 5 secs > PC is off

second reboot: Install on the Hard Disk
- the install went smooth, everything is fine for me, at the first reboot everything was fine...
- the overall impression is that R2 works in Live mode better than R1, is more responsive,
and manages better many concurrently tasks,
- finally repos are full configured out of the box, in the best way, so I was able to install all
- the windows refresh is fast (free ati drivers), watching a HD video from Youtube is smooth
- it's sufficient to create a file/folder inside a predefined folder and SW fixes the localization
. the ACPI functions are OK, and it swich off very fast
- the installation of Skype was simply, and at the first launch and login, audio/video is fine
(without changing anything!)

I'll write about my final impressions on this laptop only when I'll complete the full installation,
with vmware player, and some VMs (windows, apples, androids)

Congrats, it seems like a "great release", the best from ever...

You have a rather complicate, not usual hw configs, SCSI and your Raid it's not daily stuff:
I fear, maybe it's difficult that you can receive soon an useful answer...

Yes I Know, but take in account that my previous configuration was similar (only 1 array of 4 2 TB disks), but no UEFI Bios. In that case I had no problem with the disk array, nor I have with opensuse 13.1.
Except for the full UEFI support, the main difference among the two distributions is the Kernel that in Opensuse is the 3.11.6. There is any way to upgrade the kernel of the live distribution?

AndreaS

PS: Despite I have a raid controller, all the disks have a sata interface and not an iscsi one.

I' m not allways rational, so I couldn' t resit I decided to risk the installation.
Everything went fine and in the installed version rosa fresh shows no " phantom" drive.
Nicco, I agree with your considerations about this release. When I' ll have the time I'll try to install some programs.

THe first problems detectedd:

Grub 2:
- Due to problems with the Nvidia driver, I reinstalled the system. This time after the installation I wasn't able to start windows. The reason was that the path to the windows bootloader was missing after the chain command. Re-running grub2-mkconfig didn't solve the problem, despite the screen output of the command did show the right path. I had to manually copy that path to grub.cfg to solve the problem.
- The option " The next booted entry will becomedefault" in grub2 setup menu (system settings/startup and shutdown/Grub2 Downloader) sorts no effect.

Graphic
- Even if you choose a different graphic driver part of the nouveau driver are still loaded preventing the startup with the new driver. Below the output of my syslog after loading the vesa driver (but I got the same result with nvidia-current)
