OpenMandriva > This is the Foundation name!

Post by Alexander83 »

From Mandriva Linux Community Blog a wonderful news!: Foundation name : OpenMandriva
Hello to all,

Finally, the name of the foundation is now fixed : OpenMandriva.
That matches both :

- the result of the poll done
- and the wish of Mdv SA

Thus, the parentage remains clear for everyone.

Please, notice that is only the name of the foundation.
The name of the distribution itself is still to be determined.

That’s an important achievement that allows us to move towards the
formalization of the legal status of the foundation.

Yes, we are still moving on !

From foundation mailinglist, Schulz say:
The name of the foundation, AND BY DEFAULT, the distribution
itself, is OpenMandriva. And we should go ahead with that name. If at
some point, though, the community decides to have a different name for
the distribution itself it will be able to do so. But right now,
OpenMandriva is the name.

I see the Perovynd answer
https://ml.mandriva.com/wws/arc/foundat ... 00104.html
As I wrote in an earlier post, I'll be releasing Alpha 2 within the next few days, and it's name will not be "Open Mandriva Linux".

If anyone wanna release something named "Open Mandriva Linux" based on cooker, feel free to, but that won't be any official release from our project at least.

NB to JCL and Joao: maybe you should post a smalll update to the blog on
this, as people think we will change name again...

Please don't.

I always wondered why the Foundation (indipendent from Mandriva SA and/or any other company) should/want beg for whatever by Mandriva SA, and submit itself to Crozet's decisions.

Mandriva SA was next to bankruptcy (again and again), they fired most of its employees and did'n pay the rest for long time (as far as one said), they have no money, no [good]reputation, and so on. They caused more damage than a storm.
They have nothing to offer to the Foundation apart an old shabby server...

The developpers of "Open Foundation next release", let's call it XYZ 2012, are payed for their work by ROSA. Others are volunteer contributors...

So, someone missed the point here.

Interesting msg

From: Zwartij <zwartij@zonnet.nl>
To: foundation@mandrivalinux.org
My main concern is, sorry was, the hi-lacking of domain names.

I just noticed that http://www.openmandriva.nl is already claimed:

by Jean-Manuel Croset
date 2012-06-19

That was a bit of a surprise to me.

Propably .com is already claimed (like al the others redirecting to this one I presume).

At least it is in the domain of an Mandriva insider and not some commercial venture who likes to resell.

Mr. Croset is handing it over to the Foundation, for use of their forum (?)
All OpenMandriva domains were already taken by Croset...

You are not in a position to decide yourself, and *I don't decide*

Actually as the project itself was officially handed over to the community back in May, with me officially assuming the role as it's project leader, I do get to decide with the support of the community project itself.

either. This is a process that starts with Mandriva S.A (i.e the
transfer to the community) and that lands in the hands of the
communtity. We agreed on certain points; the fact that you disagree with
them afterwards is completely immaterial at this stage.

The certain points agreed on is what you've repeatedly failed to comply with both here and within the internal workgroup which you undermined and caused great enough dissatisfaction within already.
A consequence of this, as I warned of repeatedly, has been my lack of involvement in the further process on this list due to it's lack of legitimacy, Mandriva S.A. don't get to create a "community" foundation for a project it no longer controls itself and then try to impose it's governance onto it unless recognized by us.

There is nothing more to say about this, which I am in a legitimate position to state.
I strongly advice you to respect this, anything else won't do neither you nor anyone else anything good.

Besides, as I wrote, the community -which is not another name for your
own single person- can decide afterwards. So please do not try to hijack
the process at this stage.

I'm talking about the project, which is lead by me, and with the support of the team behind it I am not the one who tries hijacking anything.

I prefer not to add anything further on this, as it shouldn't be necessary, I will proceed with what stated without allowing myself to waste further time and energy on this with you again, it's already caused a great enough delay of the upcoming release already.

A malicious person might think that Mandriva SA/Crozet doesn't care at all about the Community Foundation project or maybe that they're even trying to boycott it, because Mandriva SA now will base their commercial products on m*****a
So, how can he care, if it doesn't bring him some money?

PS>
And naming the Community Foundation and products xxxMandriva, like openMandriva in our case, could be nothing else than another way to advertise Mandriva SA exploiting Community work.
Nice shot!

Actually, all .org domains for the names in the so called have been registered already, it would be not that strange if not for the available un-registered respective .net, .info, .biz, .de, .nl, .at, .co.uk etc.

Regarding those "polls" don't forget they can be easily : for fun, out of hate or spite or even interest ;)

All the names that were in the poll (link in the first post) were already grabbed by JM Croset (Mandriva SA), for avoiding cybersquatting. See for example https://www.gandi.net/whois/details?sea ... ndrake.org or https://www.gandi.net/whois/details?sea ... ndrake.org https://www.gandi.net/whois/details?sea ... alinux.org
