Salve,

I nuovi kernel, 3.10.8-nrj-desktop-1rosa e 3.10.9-nrj-desktop-1rosa non si avviano ????
Immediatamente il PC si blocca, non ho tempo per più d'informazioni.

64 bits, AMD X2-5200, 8 Gig, nVidia 8800 GTS (nVidia driver 325.15)

Ciao MauRIce

Eugene Shatokhin, this morning, informed me about some 3.10.8 errors related probably to BFQ

?

Seems to be related to BFQ (EIP: bfq_init_queue+0xe4). It is ROSA Fresh
x64, kernel 3.10.8 desktop nrjQL

Reported here:
http://bugs.rosalinux.ru/show_bug.cgi?id=2530

I will be on a vacation soon, perhaps will have no time to investigate
it in the next 2-3 weeks, unfortunately.

Regards,
Eugene

So, I started to search around:
right now, googling with the string "3.10.8 BFQ", I found a lot of usefull links: the issue exists!

Some links:

[SOLVED] Problem with booting wth BFQ
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1315184

Lockup on elevator switch to BFQ with upcoming 3.10.8 and related -stable releases
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/bfq-iosched
This is reproducible: booting without the udev rule and then doing the usual "echo bfq > /sys/dev/sdX/queue/scheduler" also locks up pretty much immediately.

A look over the patches in 3.10.8 makes me think that this is very likely due to the following patch: http://lkml.org/lkml/2013/8/18/178 which fixes locking around elevator changes.

now i'm reading to understand the problem and search for the proper solution

POST EDIT : solution found!

Here seems to be the fixing patch
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic ... 4Lg5INzQ-k

the patch to fix kernel hangs on boot:
https://groups.google.com/group/bfq-ios ... tch?part=4

thanks to everyone for the alert and for the suggestions

Hi,

hoping the BFQ patch solves "the hang on boot" issue:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic ... 4Lg5INzQ-k

I've prepared and replaced all the SRPMS for 3.10.9,
below I've copied the changelog text related to nrjQL

Code: Select all

%changelog
* Thu Aug 22 2013 Nicolo' Costanza <abitrules@yahoo.it> 3.10.9-69
- replacement 3.10.9 release
- To fix the "hangs on boot issue" signaled: bugs.rosalinux.ru/show_bug.cgi?id=2530
- add: /patches-NRJ/0004-block-Switch-from-BFQ-v6r2-for-3.10.0-to-BFQ-v6r2-fo.patch
- sync: /patches
- update: /patches-QL/tuxonice-for-linux-3.10.9-2013-08-21.patch
- fix conflicts as suggested by Tomasz Paweł Gajc: dkms-nvidia-current < 325.15-1

now I started a limited time rebuild with only 1 flavour enabled:
kernel-nrj-desktop or kernel-nrjQL-desktop,
so we can install and test very soon to verify if the boot is OK

bye, NicCo

I can't get the latest Nvidia drivers to work with 3.8.12, 3.8.13, 3.10.5 kernels in various flavors. Before I open a topic on Nvidia I would like to try a recent 3.10.9 kernel and hope everything works out automatically. Where can I find the kernel rpms? The given repository http://abf-downloads.rosalinux.ru/kerne ... repository is empty at the moment.

The Repo is not empty, just a sort of strange malfunction. Try to go up to the main directory an then down again, the directories will magically fill up.

You are right. Doing as you say restored sanity and I could install the kernel. The Nvidia driver still does not work though. I'll report on it on the Nvidia thread.
