Huge update pushed to the repositories for ROSA Fresh

Post by NicCo »

Right now, I received an important News, that it's better to share with You, ROSA Fresh users
UPDATED 10 May 2013 > Alexander Kazancev wrote:
We now test important system updates (who wants help us may add repo from ABF directly). Thay consists two common features:

1. Full drop dm/prefdm/lookupdm sysvinit in grafical subsystem. Now what dm will need load select via systemd as symlinking dm service to /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service
2. For switch dm now need use systemctl disable xyzolddm.service -> systemctl enable xyznewdm.service
3. drakedm not work so - we fix this in near feature and add it to DE Control Center.
4. Now graphical console is NUMBER ONE, instead of #7 virtual console.

5. All things, related to drakx-net (draknetcenter, netapplet, etc) fully disabled (program files still present, but not works properly and this will be fixed in next drakx-net and drakxtools update) - now only 'vanilla' network with using sctips if/cfg/up/down and NetworkManager will work. Latest moved from Mandriva workaround to upstream RH way.

6. DM fixed to work via systemd are: kdm, gdm, lightdm, slim. If you will need some other DM (like xdm for example), say us about.

7. In private repo DM may not patched, and this is the case of KDE 4.10.3 (yesterday status)
If you use a private repo DE and get blackscreen, simple press CTRL+F2 and then (from root)

Code: Select all

systemctl enable xyzdm.service
where xyzdm.service your DM (for example kdm.service or gdm.service).

for example, if KDE with KDM

Code: Select all

systemctl enable kdm.service

At the reboot I remained in terminal, I rebooted again, once again I was in the terminal

So, I was forced to:

Code: Select all

# systemctl enable kdm.service
rebooting again, here the KDM and I can login

I hope that dont happen too much often, otherwise,
for the newbie users this might be a little shocking...

Alexander Kazancev wrote:We temporary stop sync ABF with zero mirror and users will not receive update.
I try investigate, why dm service may not enable and we push update to mirrors only after test and fix.
So, only people that has manually configured the repositories coming from ABF server might receive the problematic update, while other people, the most part of ROSA users, having the repo configured graphically from mirror.rosalab..., all them will be safe from the possible problem!

AlexanderKazancev wrote:Heh - i found where is a problem - you use kde from non official repo and kdm from it not patched for properly moving to systemd. I wrote Andrey Bondrov how need patch kdm for 4.10. I dont see kdm update in output.
The culprit for the issue that I found was NOT the updates but the presence of KDE 4.10.x:
"kde from non official repo and kdm from it not patched for properly moving to systemd..."

Andrey Bondrov has been informed, so this problem with KDM will be fixed soon in KDE repo

I remind to all our users having KDE4.10 that before updating their ROSA Fresh is better writing the commands discussed in this Topic, copying in a sheet of paper, then if the problem happens they could fix immediately without worrying about

I copy again the commands here, you must execute only one, naturally:

If you have KDE with KDM

Code: Select all

# systemctl enable kdm.service
If you have ROSA Fresh Gnome with GDM

Code: Select all

# systemctl enable gdm.service
