Kernel nrj 3.10.9 for ROSA 2012 2012.1 & OM 2013 cooker

Post by NicCo »

Kernel nrj 3.10.9 for ROSA 2012 2012.1 & OM 2013 cooker

Kernel 3.10.9 for ROSA Marathon (2012.0), ROSA Desktop.Fresh 2012 (2012.1) and Mandriva 2010, MDV2011.0, OpenMandriva 2013.0 and Cooker

Image
Since few days Cooker has been forked into two branches: cooker and openmandriva2013.0 (frozen for omv20130.0 release)
so, since this 3.10.6 our rebuilds will follow this scheme and will be made be also for cooker and openmandriva2013.0 both...
People with OpenMandriva 2013.0 LX testing new kernels 3.10 should remove the previous kernel cooker repo and replace it with the new openmandriva2013.0 (naturally the above suggestion is only for those who want to stay with stable OpenMandriva 2013.0, not for the followers of cooker developments...)

To check the build status from ABF (in realtime)
https://abf.rosalinux.ru/kernels_3_10x/ ... uild_lists

INFO about the SRPM build possibilities and rpm availability:
For ROSA Marathon we'll build Kernels LTS: 3.0, 3.2, 3.4, and all the latest kernels up to the 3.10 series
For ROSA Fresh we are building all Kernel versions starting only from the 3.6 to the most recent series
For "Cooker" we are building all Kernel versions starting only from the 3.8 to the most recent series
For old distros Mandriva 2010 and 2011, we are maintaining build compatibility: you can also rebuild,
but we CANNOT prepare the rpms for You, as we have no chance to build with ABF or in our own PCs

Kernel 3.10.9 by MIB
This is prepared like the official one used for ROSA Desktop.Fresh 2012
this version is the prepared by MIB for Mandriva and ROSA development

Since October you could find some differences and news also in this mainline serie,
the reason it that we are in full development mode for ROSA 2012.1:
from version 3.5.6 we will release two new flavours and also their 32bit pae versions
  • kernel-nrj-laptop > It's optimized for laptop PCs, with a particular attention for cpu cooling and the battery lasting
  • kernel-nrj-realtime > It's optimized to have the lowest latency and so it's better for realtime apps like jackd, ecc...

ImageIMPORTANT, READ!
  • New path of the Kernel folders for Mandriva and ROSA
General INFO about the new kernel paths and also about the new proprietary kernel drivers
  • Before downloading and installing any kernel 3.10.9 flavour, you need to install the Required microcode firmware!
Microcode firmwares for cpu AMD / INTEL updates
With the proper cpu microcode enabled you can obtain a more reliability of you system, especially indespensable in server area, so when your cpu has a defect, kernel will found the best work-around to avoid slowdowns, or dangerous oops that could harm till to freeze your OS...
  • Notice for the users of MDV 2011!
ABF build for 2011 is broken nowdays, when and if the 2011 build side will be fixed you'll find again the rpms.
Some problems could still occour in Mandriva 2011 by dracut remaining problems with installation and update
these problems if / when happen are not our fault, because aren't related to the kernel contents or packaging...
Once I succeeded to solve this ugly problem, installing the "dracut" version from RM2012 repositories into 2011

You can also get the wished SRPM and make a local rebuild for your own old Mandriva 2010 or 2011

Various Helps and News for Kernel 3.10 series

Kernel 3.10.9 is OK now! (kernel 3.10.8 has the "hang on boot issue" and will be removed from ABF)
Kernel 3.10.8 and 3.10.9 suffered an heavy issue

you can read, in a detailed way, all the story here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4113

it was focused and fixed in less than 24 hrs (pratically today), and also other improvments have been added...
all the rpms packages have been removed and the fixed ones will be available in some hours, just rebuild time
New kernel flavours (PAE) have been added to the rebuild:
Because of no more ABF 12hrs time limitation, since this 3.10.6 I've added to rebuild,
another 2 flavours to test, the 32bit with PAE for the 32bit OS with 4Gb or more ram:
- kernel-nrj-desktop-pae,
- kernel-nrj-laptop-pae
and
- kernel-nrjQL-desktop-pae,
- kernel-nrjQL-laptop-pae

Broadcom-wl driver - testing is needed > viewtopic.php?f=53&t=4106
euspectre wrote:Hi,

I have patched the proprietary driver for Broadcom WiFi adapters to fix crashes at boot (http://bugs.rosalinux.ru/show_bug.cgi?id=2146).

It works fine on my laptop but additional testing is needed to make sure the problem did go away.

If you have a laptop with Broadcom WiFi adapter and ROSA Desktop Fresh installed, it would be great if you could test the updated driver there.

Please install the package, reboot and check if there are any problems with WiFi.

'lspci -vnn | grep BCM4' will tell if the system has the appropriate controller. BCM4312 and higher are needed.

The updated package (dkms-broadcom-wl-5.100.82.112-13) is available in my personal repo:

i586:

For VMWare 9.0.2, VMPlayer 5.0.2 with Kernel 3.10
here the solution: > http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/rosa201 ... -kernel310
download the two tar files fixed by us
>>> http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/rosa201 ... mblock.tar
>>> http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/rosa201 ... /vmnet.tar

from root replace the two existing files with the fixed ones

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/
now vmware can rebuild its modules with all kernels 3.10!

to manually force vmware modules rebuild you can execute

Code: Select all

vmware-modconfig --install-all
or, if from a kde or gnome terminal

Code: Select all

vmware-modconfig --install-all --console

325.15 came in with a large update for this installation on 23 August. Next boot, nvidia wasn't loaded, so I ran XFdrake in the tty. It asked if I wanted the proprietary driver and I said yes. Next boot, nvidia was running but I had to restore my custom xorg.conf to get the resolution I want with this monitor. To be sure, I was running nvidia before the update. Now, all is fine but it seems something went wrong with the automatic building of the module at installation time.

Thanks. :)
