Kernel 3.13.6 for ROSA 2012 2012.1 OMV 2013 2014 cooker

Post by NicCo »

Kernel 3.13.6 for ROSA 2012lts, rosa2012.1 and omv2013.0, omv2014.0, and cooker (omv2014.1)
Kernel 3.13 finally arrives in its complex nrj & nrjQL flavours, for ROSA and OpenMandriva Linux OSes!

This time arrives with just a bit of delay, to read the reasons > viewtopic.php?p=23628#p23628

This is the very first version of "nrj/nrjQL" stable 3.13.x, in its early development stage,
so, it's released only for Beta testing purposes,
please, dont use this srpm if you are a newbie, because maybe is still to fix all over!!!

Considering the upcoming release of OpenMandriva Lx 2014 Beta, I have deemed it appropriate that it was urgent, so I've prepared ASAP, yesterday I've built the first complete source on my PC, I've installed on my 3 Pcs and I've verified that it works as expected, finally, right now, I've sent it to ABF

THE EXPERIMENT CORNER
In this first 3.13.6 version we enabled two new kernel keys to test the "EDID ovverride" feature,
with this we should be able to override the wrong EDID of displays with options at kernel boot

We enabled exactly these two keys:
http://cateee.net/lkddb/web-lkddb/FIRMWARE_EDID.html
http://cateee.net/lkddb/web-lkddb/DRM_L ... MWARE.html

About EDID override howto, you read here:
https://www.osadl.org/monitoring/patche ... ware.patch

In general, choosing Y for this option is safe. If you experience extremely long delays while booting before you get something on your display, try setting this to N. Matrox cards in combination with certain motherboards and monitors are known to suffer from this problem.

Please, check if this feature harms the Matrox video driver..., if you can..., and report here!

Since version 3.13.6 we use the new major version of BFQ v7r2

VMWare virtualization
We have noticed that Kernel 3.13 did not work with the VMWare virtualization
we are searching for a solution to be applied directly to the vmware sources...

The patched archive (vmnet.tar) for the kernel 3.13.6+ is available here:
http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/rosa201 ... kernel313/.

Put it in /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/, after a safety backup of the original /source folder contents.

Cheers.

Hi,

As noticed here, users with NVidia cards must absolutely have versions 304.1210 or 334.21 (or upper) to be able to use kernel 3.13.6 :)

Great work my friend, i've tested all i586 and works as expected. Boot time is just same as previous

Code: Select all

[root@Sony anthony]# systemd-analyze
Startup finished in 8.005s (kernel) + 36.587s (userspace) = 44.593s

NRJQL desktop x64 does not work for me. It stops during boot . Last message is: switched to tmsc clock.
I didn't try any other flavor.

Are you using proprietary video drivers or the free xorg ones?
I inform you that our current non-free ati /nvidia are not good for 3.13, now you must use free drivers with it

Yes I'm running the last Nvidia (331.38), so I have to wait for a new release of the proprietary drivers.
The strange thing is that the boot des not stop just before launching the login screen, as it did in the past with incompatible nvidia drivers.
