Kernel 3.14.6 for ROSA 2012 2012.1 2014.1 OMV2013 2014 2015

Kernel 3.14.6 for ROSA 2012lts, rosa2012.1, omv2013.0, omv2014.0, rosa2014.1 and cooker (omv2015.0)
Kernel 3.14 finally arrives in its complex nrj & nrjQL flavours, for ROSA and OpenMandriva Linux OSes!

This is the very first version of "nrj/nrjQL" stable 3.14.x, in its early development stage,
so, it's released only for Beta testing purposes,
please, don't use this srpm if you are a newbie, because maybe is still to fix all over!!!

Kernel 3.14.6 - http://lwn.net/Articles/601722/
Since version 3.14.6 we use the new major version of BFQ v7r5

read more about BFQv7r5:
viewtopic.php?p=23575#p23575
Hi,
here is a first good side effect of our effort for getting bfq merged into mainline :)
Two developers reported a regression with two git tasks, which gave us the opportunity to further improve throughput boosting with the workloads generated by these tasks. The result is this v7r5.

As of now, Arianna has prepared patches only for 3.13.0-3.15.0, but we have decided to share with you these patches even before also the other ones are ready.
  • IMPROVEMENT: Improve throughput boosting by idling the device
only for processes that, in addition to perform sequential I/O,
are I/O-bound (apart from weight-raised queues, for which idling
is always performed to guarantee them a low latency).
  • IMPROVEMENT: Improve throughput boosting by depriving processes
    that cooperate often of weight-raising.
  • CODE IMPROVEMENT: Pass of improvement of the readability of both
    comments and actual code.

VMWare virtualization
We have noticed that Kernel 3.14 did not work with the VMWare virtualization
we are searching for a solution to be applied directly to the vmware sources...

Currently there are problems with ABF that is not publishing
the rpm files into their proper destination folders:
>>> http://abf.rosalinux.ru/downloads/kerne ... epository/

All the kernel rpms are ready and well working, what to do now?
you can download the needed files into a local folder then install

the path to all the rpm files for the different platforms and archs:
https://abf.rosalinux.ru/kernels_3_14x/ ... uild_lists
https://abf.rosalinux.ru/kernels_3_14x/ ... uild_lists
and to test new kernel one
https://abf.rosalinux.ru/kernels_testin ... uild_lists

Hi,

I can't find rpms when going to https://abf.rosalinux.ru/kernels_3_14x/ ... uild_lists and, thinking maybe the publishing has been fixed, I tried to install kernel-nrjQL-desktop-devel-3.14.6-1omv kernel-nrjQL-desktop-3.14.6-1omv cpupower kernel-headers

Like this:

Code: Select all

# urpmi.addmedia kernel314 http://abf-downloads.rosalinux.ru/kernels_3_14x_personal/repository/openmandriva2014.0/x86_64/main/release/

# urpmi kernel-nrjQL-desktop kernel-nrjQL-desktop-devel cpupower kernel-headers
I got:

Code: Select all

installing cpupower-3.14.6-1-omv2014.0.x86_64.rpm kernel-headers-3.14.6-1-omv2014.0.x86_64.rpm from /var/cache/urpmi/rpms

      2/2: kernel-headers ############################################################################################################
      1/1: removing kernel-headers-3.13.11-1.x86_64
Well, I guess since I did not use the --update switch. So,

Code: Select all

# urpmi kernel-nrjQL-desktop-3.14.6-1omv kernel-nrjQL-desktop-devel-3.14.6-1omv

The fglrx driver didn't build. Sorry, I am not good at this, generally just bumble about until I get the kernel updates done correctly but, look, I'm still on the internet! :P

ISTR the x11-driver being needed and have x11-driver-video-fglrx-14.100.1006-1-omv2014.0.x86_64 but don't recall if a new one is needed for each new kernel. Can you help me with this, please?
Thanks.

sorry
a build problem between kernel 3.14 vs 14.100.1006 aka 14.4 really exists

we can read, for example, here
http://bluehatrecord.wordpress.com/2014 ... rnel-3-14/

I've asked in cooker, if someone can update the fglrx driver, with a working patch,
the proprietary drivers suck...

Nicco, do you know if somebody is working on the Nvidia Driver? I saw that some patches exist, but only for versions newer than that currently present on the rosa fresh repository and, unfortunately, the original driver from Nvidia does not install on rosa.

Thanks

Packages kernel-firmware-20140322-1-omv2014.0.noarch, sysfsutils-2.1.0-30-omv2014.0.x86_64, microcode_ctl-1.17-18-omv2014.0.x86_64 are already installed
A requested package cannot be installed:
kernel-nrjQL-desktop-3.14.6-1omv-1-1-omv2014.0.x86_64 (due to unsatisfied dracut-037-5-omv2014.0.x86_64)
Continue installation anyway? (Y/n)
But I have that pkg installed:

Code: Select all

[root@localhost ]# rpm -qa | grep dracut
dracut-037-5-omv2014.0.x86_64
Where is the problem?

It's weird!
Let's wait the current 3.14.8 builds and retry...

I tried 3.14.8 and I got the same result as with 3.14.6. What is wrong? Should I continue anyway?

I believe you can continue, as you really have that dracut version installed

let me know, how it works after the reboot!

There must be something wrong with urpmi. When I used:

Code: Select all

rpm -i kernel-nrjQL-desktop-3.14.8-1omv-1-1-omv2014.0.x86_64.rpm
all went fine, no unsatisfied message, kernel has been installed successfully and after reboot it seems fine. Thanks.
