Kernel 3.0 finalmente rilasciato!
Dopo qualche giorno di ritardo, che è servito sia per risolvere un problema dell'ultimora che per avere una ulteriore sicurezza di rilasciare un kernel senza bug conosciuti, è finalmente qui:
source:
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v ... .0.tar.bz2

Well, don't worry!
Even if Mandriva will not release it because they're too lazy, you'll find 3.0.1 kernel (or newer) both for 2010.2 and for 2011 version at MIB.
Anyway they'll lose a so big opportunity to be the first big distro shipping with kernel 3.0, and naturally to support natively more hardware!
Remember that kernel 2.6.38.x gives so many problems with batteries on laptop...
bye, NicCo

Re: Kernel 3.0, finalmente disponibile, una pietra miliare..
I think, everytime you, Nicco, updates the kernel you must update these packages too:
kernel-firmware
kernel-firmware-extra
They must be packaged when kernel update has been installed in your pc. Perhaps if you make this you resolve my problem with my wifi.
I have seen the Mageia Cauldron repository and it contains this package to version 3.0
And in kernel-firmware-extra contains many Atheros Card driver

Re: Kernel 3.0, finalmente disponibile, una pietra miliare..
I worked all day long with new kernel nrj 3.0.0:
No problems, audio, video, network, all is fine,
the only issue I have, vmware 7.1.4 and vmplayer 3.1.4 don't build their modules,
so I must wait for an update (vmware 7.1.5, vmplayer 3.1.5) or some unofficial patches
I'm refining some features in PREEMPT zone
e.g.
I enabled a NEW feature available since 3.0.0
Enable RCU priority boosting (RCU_BOOST)
First tested/testing version will be
Kernel NRJ 3.0.0 for 2010.2 - 64bit
My install
for all the others versions, should follow soon...
bye, NicCo

I'm rebuilding all again, I'll install this new release, if in my PC it'll work fine, I'll upload files and advice you whereThis option boosts the priority of preempted RCU readers that block the current preemptible RCU grace period for too long. This option also prevents heavy loads from blocking RCU callback invocation for all flavors of RCU.
Say Y here if you are working with real-time apps or heavy loads Say N here if you are unsure.
